Utah Valley Magazine

Hey all!

For a great version of Grandma Hicks' holiday rolls, check out the November-December issue of Utah Valley Magazine - Sweet Potato Crescent Rolls with Lemon Herb Compound Butter. The "Meet the Chef" blurb and photo are fun, too!!!

HI, Donna.

Just read your post; haven't even read the mag yet and I already have a gripe; I know , you are so surprised.

My gripe is about my name. I just noticed how hicky "Grandma Hicks" sounds. Makes me sound like Marjorie Main, doesn't it.

Let me use your venue to conduct a survey. Can anyone think of any other appellation that I could use that would be somewhat kind (Kate's right about not using the blogs to insult each other: not nice, and I'm trying to be like Jesus and be less snarky, athough my friends think we're entitled after enduring this close to the end--you'll find out some day). I'm even going to try to quit correcting grammar, and grammar is my hobby, so it won't be easy.

Let's help me find a less icky name/nickname. Be nice.

A fabulous prize to the best one.
You can vote, but it has to be printable. I don't promise to use it, but the prize will still go to the one y'all chose.

You could always go for a hip rapper name to appeal to the youth crowd. How about "Straight up G." "The gramma'gramma'" (Get it, get it, because it's not grammatically correct).

That was Kate btw. I was signed in as Neil.

Kate, I like both of those.

So far you are tied with you.

You've taught me something; if I can't help myself and simply itch all over to correct something, I'll sign in as Grandpa Hicks. (I wish I knew how to make one of those smiley faces like the ones JP puts on when he's kidding.)

Actually, "Grandpa Hicks" sounds just as icky, doesn't it. Why couldn't we be something lovely sounding, like Amy Jane or Lily?

PS

I got it, got it.

You are the Kelly Kids' only grandma left - so you get whatever name you want!

I have never been a big fan of "nana" and the like . . . but, hey! as you said, with age comes privilege, so . . . you get to choose?

Hows about Grandma Carol? Is that better than 'Hicks?'

Marginally.

The thing is that I am so home bound these days that I have been using your blogs for entertainment, connection, stimulation, etc.

I'm dealing with adjustment to chemotherapy, recovering from shoulder surgery, a broken rib, chemo brain (A real side effect), the flu (worst one I've ever had), and now a suspected broken tail bone.

It's a long story.

Chemo brain keeps me from reading much, flu keeps people from visiting, and I'm actually glad because I don't even want to clean up to receive them.

Hence these little cyber conversations are filling in for any other kind of fun right now.

Where's the fun, contact, etc, if I just pick myself a new name.
Fun comes in with displays of wit such as Kate's.

These days you take your fun where you find it.

Hugs...signature pending.

Yes, I love blogs for the same reasons, mom. I love to keep up with everyone!!!

I'm so soooooo sorry, mom . . . I used to think that the very worst thing that could happen to you is for one of your kids to be sick, but . . . I am revising that thought now . . . it's just as bad to have your MOM to be sick and you are helpless to do anything.

Please know that we think of you often and are sending thoughts and prayers your way. (Matt mentioned you in a family prayer recently - did you feel the love?)
